Website Links Related to my Work

This site links to websites of other people and organisations with which my work is closely connected. This is far from being a complete list.

Vérčne Nicolas - my wife, who trains using the Training for Transformation approach and works particularly with marginalised women.

Centre for Human Ecology. I am a Fellow of this and teach a module, Soil, Soul & Society on its MSc degree course in human ecology which is accredited by the Open University Validation Service.

The GalGael Trust. I am a founding trustee of this community organisation that works for social and ecological regeneration and building an inclusive sense of cultural identity in Scotland.

Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust. I am a founding and then community-elected trustee of the original Isle of Eigg Trust that was set up in 1991. In 1997 we transferred most of our assets over to the new Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust which comprises 8 trustees, 4 being elected island residents representing the local community, 2 being Highland Council appointees representing the wider democratic constituency, and 2 from the Scottish Wildlife Trust representing the flowers and little critters. The chair is, Simon Fraser, lawyer and Gaelic-speaking crofter from the Isle of Lewis.

Soil and Soul permaculture centre - a group in Norfolk, partly inspired by Soil and Soul, working with the land and victims of torture.

Rainforest Information Centre (Australia - John Seed). John Seed is a great teacher. Check out this site for lots of good information on deep ecology. In March 2000 we ran a three-week course together on "Soil, Soul & Society" at Schumacher College, Totnes, with Carolyn Merchant, author of "The Death of Nature."

The Coach House Kilmuir Trust - an Ignatian-style retreat centre near Inverness that Verene and I go to.

Green Earth Foundation, website of Ralph Metzner of the original Leary/Alpert/Metzner triune - lots of stuff on consciousness, including an excellent bibliography.

Frank Stark - a wildlife photographer based in my own home village of Leurbost on the Isle of Lewis - check out the photos and write-ups - check out the "Ariticles" section of his site.

Word Power - an independent radical bookshop in Edinburgh - a good place to buy Soil and Soul and many other radical books, now with online ordering; also, sponsors of an excellent annual Radical Book Fair.

The Ronnie Hancox Band - a Tamworth Bands band history webpage for my maternal grandfather (merrymaking counterpoint to the Scots presbyterianism on my father's side!)

Community Land Scotland - a coalition of communities that have acquired their own land as part of Scotland's land reform movement.
